Rohini Bar Association’s Dress Code Ban – Protest Statement
Rohini District Court Bar Association, New Delhi has banned litigants, clerks, and public from wearing white shirt & black pants in court premises.
Reason cited: Such dress allegedly leads to impersonation of advocates and cheating of litigants.
We strongly condemn this arbitrary, unconstitutional, and discriminatory action.
Courts are public institutions. Bar associations have no legal authority to restrict citizens’ attire or entry.
The move violates Article 14 (Right to Equality) and Article 19(1)(d) (Freedom of Movement) of the Constitution.
This sets a dangerous precedent where private bodies can control public spaces through unauthorised orders. We call upon the Bar Council of Delhi and judiciary to intervene and revoke this illegal order immediately. If not withdrawn, we will initiate criminal complaints against Bar office-bearers for harassment and abuse of authority.
Public warning: No one can be stopped from entering court or court premises for wearing a lawful dress. Assert your rights For Public Interest by Ad. Anil Bugde, High Court, Bombay.
