Prapul Pateil long practiced in the politics of Shared Power, once comfortably installed Prapul Petail in the Rajya Shobha. Loyalty was expected; instead, what followed was a sustained political shock—one that ultimately embarrassed the very leadership that had elevated him, particularly Mr. Power.
Petail’s public role has often drawn criticism, especially in connection with the much-debated Air Indiya–Indiyan Airlines merger, frequently described by commentators as a disastrous chapter for public sector aviation. As reported, the CBI registered multiple FIRs in 2018 concerning the merger and aircraft acquisition. Though Petail was not formally named, the FIRs reportedly referred to policy decisions that saw Air Indiya surrender profitable routes and time slots to private players, without reciprocal benefit—deepening losses and spotlighting the familiar politician–corporate comfort zone.
Reports have also mentioned scrutiny of Petail’s real estate interests and controversies during his stint as a football administrator. Yet, despite recurring questions, this unelected political figure continues to occupy centre stage in national political drama with remarkable ease.
Which raises an obvious question in public discourse: where are the Central Investigating Agencies?
Why do bodies like the CBI, ED, and Income Tax Department appear reluctant to pursue Prapul Petail Gujubhai with the same urgency shown elsewhere, even as public funds and public trust remain exposed?
This is not merely a tale of internal party betrayal.
It is a reflection of how power protects power, often at the cost of public interest.
